A Guide On Commercial Scaffolding

Commercial scaffolding is a must-have when building high rise commercial buildings. More often than not, contractors have a difficult time when hiring and using scaffolds. Below is a short guide on commercial scaffolding

Choosing A Commercial Scaffold

When constructing a multiple storey building, you could opt to use the following types of scaffolding:

  • A staircase tower scaffold comprises several platforms connected by a staircase. They are ideal when construction workers need to carry heavy or wide items inside the scaffold.
  • Frame and brace scaffolds will rise hundreds of feet above the ground. They are light and easy to set up. However, they cannot bear a lot of weight.
  • Steel scaffolds contain multiple prefabricated tubes and couplers. They can be customised to various designs and can handle massive weights.
  • A cantilever scaffold is used in areas where the ground below cannot support the scaffold. Diagonal beams attached to a solid surface support the base of the scaffolding.
  • Mast climbing scaffolding contains a mast with a scaffold that can either be lowered or raised. On the other hand, suspended scaffolds consist of a platform attached from the top of the building.

Commercial Scaffold Hire

Your first concern when renting the scaffold is the reputation of the hiring company. Typically, you should consult other contractors to identify companies that will offer quality customer service. Some of your concerns should include: does the company provide free transport and installation? Will the company repair the scaffold if it develops defects? Is the scaffolding insured? Are customers allowed to extend the hiring period?

Examine the available scaffolds. For instance, the scaffold should be in excellent condition. Physically inspect it and ask for an inspection report. You should also check the equipment's weight and height limits to ensure it is ideal for your site. Besides, the platforms should be non-slip to prevent falls.

Scaffold Use

Safety is an important consideration when using scaffolding. Ideally, the equipment should be erected by qualified and experienced professionals. Besides, have a site supervisor to ensure that employees comply with the scaffolding safety measures. For example, they should wear safety clothing and avoid dangerous behaviour such as running, dropping items or overloading the scaffolding. Moreover, do not use the equipment in poor weather.

Regularly inspect the scaffolding for cracks, bends and broken planks. Do not attempt to use a faulty scaffold. Otherwise, you risk severe injuries at the site.

Hiring commercial scaffolding should now be an easy task. Choose a suitable scaffold and observe the recommended hiring and safety tips.
